Innovative curved tropical greenhouse for ‘Flora’ in Cologne
EdenParks has designed and built an innovative botanical greenhouse for the renowned ‘Flora’ Botanical Garden in Cologne.
18-metre-high arch
for world-famous botanical garden
This unique U-shaped structure consists of three curved greenhouses that merge seamlessly into one another. The central arch reaches an impressive height of 18 metres, providing space for a walkway. This walkway allows visitors to admire tropical plants from an unprecedented perspective.
Orangery and canopy
In addition to the botanical greenhouse, EdenParks has also designed an orangery that is connected to the greenhouse by a canopy. This allows visitors to move comfortably from one space to another, regardless of the weather conditions.
Optimal growing conditions
with minimal use of steel
The design by architectural firm Königs emphasises maximum light incidence through the use of approximately 4,500 m² of insulated glass and minimal use of steel. This ensures optimal growing conditions for the approximately 6,000 rare and endangered plant species housed in the greenhouse. Both tropical and desert climates are simulated within the 3,000 m² greenhouse, which benefits the diversity of flora.

This project has been awarded the Benelux Hot-Dip Galvanising Trophy (BTTV) 2021, which highlights the technical and aesthetic quality of the design.

Thanks to our expertise, we have also built greenhouses for Keukenhof, Hortus Botanicus in Leiden, Inverewe and RHS Wisley, in addition to this well-known botanical garden. We are currently constructing an enormous greenhouse for the botanical garden in Gothenburg. These are often special constructions that, in addition to their striking design, also require specific climate control for the rare plant collections.
