The Lake District in northern England has been a popular holiday destination for around 200 years. Today, it is one large National Park, with very strict building regulations. In the middle of this area, a stone's throw from beautiful Lake Windermere, lies the large, spacious Hayes Garden World garden centre. The current owner, Richard Hayes (fifth generation), succeeded in obtaining permission for a major renovation, which was carried out between 2010 and 2012.

Special canopy for greater comfort

The design by renowned designer Malcolm Scott's firm was typical of our work: a special canopy for greater comfort. There was no ready-made solution, and many additional calculations were required. Ultimately, the design was modified slightly, mainly with regard to rainwater drainage. Because as beautiful as the Lake District is, it is also the wettest part of England on average!

A combination of demolition, renovation and new construction has created a modern, stylish garden centre, while preserving the park-like surroundings and the fantastic views of the mountains around Ambleside.
