Venlo greenhouse in Botanical Garden
Plant propagation greenhouse and facilities
Once again, Smiemans Projecten has been commissioned to build a greenhouse for a botanical garden. This time, the National Trust for Scotland has asked us to build a propagation facility for Inverewe. Inverewe is one of the most famous heritage gardens in Europe and one of the most visited in Scotland. The National Trust for Scotland is a non-profit organisation that protects and promotes Scotland's natural and cultural heritage.
Plant Propagation greenhouse and facilities
The propagation facility consists of various structures and a Venlo-type greenhouse. This greenhouse consists of areas for potting and propagation, as well as areas where plants can overwinter or continue to grow as cuttings until they become plants.
This is achieved by means of specialised fixed and movable equipment, such as heated propagators with irrigation facilities. This also includes a computer-controlled climate system that regulates the temperature, screening and ventilation for the four different zones. We also build the general areas, such as the sanitary and technical rooms.
Plant nursery
For the nursery facilities, we have built a number of other structures and technical installations to ensure that the diversity within the 22-hectare (54-acre) garden can be maintained. It also guarantees the future development of the plant collections in the heritage garden so that they can continue to reproduce.
The façade and deck of the propagation rooms are designed in glass. Sandwich panels are used for all other rooms, such as the office. We will start construction in September.
Expert in botanical greenhouses
Thanks to our expertise, we have also built greenhouses for the Keukenhof, Hortus Botanicus in Leiden, Bayan in Kuwait and RHS Garden Wisley, in addition to this well-known botanical garden. We are currently constructing an enormous greenhouse for the botanical garden in Gothenburg. These are often special constructions that, in addition to their striking design, also require specific climate control for the rare plant collections.
