Construction of ‘The Glasshouse’ and nursery, technical rooms and classrooms, and responsibility for the installations, climate control and all mechanical and electronic systems. |
For one of the world's largest gardens, covering more than 97 hectares, we were commissioned by the internationally renowned British Royal Horticultural Society to build a special educational greenhouse in Garden Wisley, now known as ‘The Glasshouse’. In addition to the arched greenhouse ‘The Glasshouse’, we also built the nursery, technical rooms and classrooms, including all climate and energy installations.
Tropical and subtropical flora in 5,500 m²
The HighLight system has been used here in a unique design: the arches reach heights of over 12.5 metres and the total surface area is more than 5,500 m². The characteristic rounded shapes create a fantastic classic-modern look. In The Glasshouse, everyone can experience the tropical and subtropical flora: see, smell and feel it. The setting is spectacular, with a waterfall, rocks, caves and an enormous variety of plants and trees.
Excellent climate, prosperous growth
The RHS experts in Wisley are extremely satisfied with the prosperous growth and flowering of all exotic plants, partly thanks to the excellent light and climate conditions. In addition to the “show greenhouse” with butterflies, we also built propagation greenhouses, technical rooms and classrooms; the more traditional Venlo greenhouse system was used for this service area.
The Clore Learning zone
Educational activities are central to the purpose-built Venlo greenhouses next to The Glasshouse. Here, visitors can learn more about plants in the Learning Space and the Growing Lab, gain hands-on experience and see how professional greenhouse gardeners work.
Opening by Queen Elizabeth
Queen Elizabeth officially opened The Glasshouse and the Clore Learning Zone on 26 June 2007 to mark the 200th anniversary of the RHS.

Beautiful garden designed by Piet Oudolf
Surrounded by a huge pond, The Glasshouse is located in a beautiful garden designed by Dutchman Piet Oudolf, one of the most influential gardeners of modern times. It is no surprise that it won the BALI National Landscape Awards 2024. This botanical garden receives over 1 million visitors per year.
Expert in botanical greenhouses
In addition to striking structures for clients such as Keukenhof, Floriade 2002 and the horticultural botanists (Leiden University and Frankfurt University), this prestigious project near London was completed to everyone's satisfaction in 2007. We are currently constructing an enormous high greenhouse for the botanical garden in Gothenburg.
These are often special structures that, in addition to their striking design, also require specific climate control for the rare plant collections.
